1963年,密西西比州的黑人民權領袖 Medgar Evers被暗殺在家門口,兇手是一名白人種族主義份子,名叫 Byron De La Beckwith,1964年,兇手 Byron接受了兩次審判,在全白人的陪審團決議之下, 兩度宣判無罪釋放。當時,許多知名人士都出聲譴責兇手,但巴布狄倫卻以另一種角度寫下了“Only a pawn in their game”, 歌詞中他寫出,南方貧窮白人的生活其實和黑人一樣困苦,但因為他們是白皮膚,所以沒有人會幫他們講話,政客們藉著種族議題炒高聲望,對於白人生活的貧困卻漠不關心,在這樣不公平的環境之下,使得貧窮的白人更加仇恨黑人,所以迪倫認為兇手不該被譴責,因為他只是政客權力遊戲中的一個棋子而已。
